Ghost Mountain/BlairValley September 21,2004
Today I asked my Niece Arriana, my Nephew Jakob, and my oldest Son Dakota if they would like to do some exploring out in Anza Borrego.  Did you think they would say no?
We all piled into my 88 4Runner and hit Sun Rise Highway, across the Laguna's and down the 78 via Banner Grade.
I have been wanting to explore the old Marshall South Homestead up on Ghost Mountain so we made it or destination.
Marshall South who among other things, wrote for Desert Magazine built Yaquitepec during the great depression and lived there with his family for 16 years. The hike from the trail-head took about 30 minutes and consisted of about one mile of switch-backs with a elevation gain of close to 1000 feet.
I sat while the kids played and tried to imagine living up there but I just don't think I could do it.  At least in a place like Panamint City there is water flowing year long.  The south's had to save rain water in cisterns and catch basins.
After making it back to the runner we had lunch.  We then drove out towards Little Blair Valley to explore the 1000+ year old Indian morteros and another mile long hike to check out some Pictographs.
The weather was the best that I've seen in a long time. Temps were mid 70's and with the winds it was even cooler.
