Panamint Valley/Surprise Canyon September 18,2005
My Son Dakota and I took a little Sunday drive out to Panamint Valley today. On the way we stopped to explore around the small desert town of Trona.
Later as we made it into Panamint Valley, we walked around the ghost town of Ballarat. Dakota has been through Ballarat a few times but this was the first time he got to go explore the town. He also got the chance to meet Rocky Novac. He now runs the General Store and is doing a fine job. He showed me the wind powered electrical generator system he has been working on. It's a great set-up!
We later saw George Novac on his way to pick up a battery he had Rocky charging for him. He is doing good and still his feisty old self.
We then walked to the top of the water falls in Surprise Canyon. While walking near the bottom of the falls Dakota spotted a herd of Bighorn Sheep near the stream. They were a beautiful sight to see and I was glad to share the experience with my Son.
Although our little trip took 17 hours and nearly 650 miles, Dakota is already asking to go back. He wants to go explore some more of the desert. That's my boy!
